# Journal

> Run journals for ECP (Execution Control Protocol): schema, layout, and CLI commands.

# Journal

Each run writes a journal under `.ecp/runs/<runId>/` (override with `ECP_RUNS_DIR`). The document uses `schema: "@executioncontrolprotocol.run.journal"` and `journalVersion: 1`.

## Layout

```
.ecp/runs/<runId>/
  journal.json
  events.jsonl
  artifacts/
```

The journal records workflow identity, step statuses, inputs/outputs (including file refs), policy pauses, and the terminal error if the run failed.

## CLI

```bash theme={null}
ecp runs list
ecp runs show <runId>
ecp runs resume <runId>
ecp runs rerun <runId> --from <step>
```

`resume` continues a paused run (`ECP_RUN_PAUSED`). `rerun --from` starts a new run from a named step when the graph is still compatible (`ECP_RERUN_INCOMPATIBLE` otherwise).
